I woke up with morning with the kind of cramps that make you think if men had to experience these for 1/2 of their lives the world would be a MUCH different place. I'm in that in-between place. Hoping to hold off menopause for just a little longer but wondering what life would be like without this monthly tribulation and imagining it must be like a wonderful endless day at the beach... ahhh ...with Mad Men's Don Draper guiding me through a wonderful vision of this day and the feeling of the cooler sand under the shade of my chair ... (I watch way too much TV).

Anyway, I also erupted with a lovely head cold over-night so I am NOT pretty today. I should be at the Greater Hartford Women's Expo, shaking hands and handing out business cards but, somehow, I think my words here might be enough to turn some of you off, you really don't need to encounter me in person right now. First impressions and all. I think one of my eyes may be swollen larger than the other ... and the shuffling gate from the cramps ... call me Quasimodo.

So, I'm laying in bed, muttering like Granny Clampet "Bury me deep so the chickens don't scratch me up", (anyone remember THAT line? If you do, email me and I'll send you a gift.) and my husband who, bless his heart, I'm sure means well, starts cleaning the house. And today, he's decided it is time to throw out the teen-ager's baseball stuff. Arghh! Noooo.... I do not want my son's size 4 cleats to go out of this house - even if he is now a size 14 shoe. Our town has a ridiculous tradition of cuitting off the recreational baseball opportunities for kids when they get to be about 15. All of the years my husband and I have both spent serving on their board did nothing to change that - and sometimes I think my husband sides with them - he seems to see no reason why kids who are about to get their drivers licenses need organized team sports.

Is it just me? Shouldn't there be opportunities created so that everyone who wants to play has a place to play and can play? Maybe that's what HWO is all about. I want to get out there and interact with all of you so I've created a place to do that - and, for those of you who have wanted to "play" and were waiting for an invitation - this is it. Send me your articles, your thougts, your photos and press releases and let's make a go of this baby - OK? Women who gave up careers, stopped writing after college, never started writing or never thought they could write - let's see what you've got. Believe me you have nothing to lose.
