What makes self-care such a challenge for women?
Women every day try to make positive changes to exercise more, to lose weight, and to reduce stress. We’re bombarded by advertisements that promote a quick and easy solution. The frustration that comes from programs that didn’t work makes many women afraid to even try again.
The biggest problem is that most fitness and wellness programs are based on external motivation. This kind of motivation comes from outside of oneself. We will persist with a healthy behavior as long as we are pushed and as long as some kind of reward or punishment is involved. In order for us to make lasting changes, we need to become internally motivated or inspired. Internal motivation comes from deep within and needs no reward or threat. The process involves a joyous celebration of your choice by choice movement toward health and well-being. How would your life be different if you began to practice a higher level of self-care? What's one thing you could do today to begin moving towards greater health and well-being?

I once visited a health club where women were doing exercises with full compliments of weights loaded on the machines. The sight of the 'weaker sex' lifting such huge weights with such ease was quite un-nerving and impressive to men, even shaking them up somewhat! Perhaps ladies can photograph each other at the gym comfortably lifting huge weights on exercise machines and then show the photo results to the men in their lives! That'll show 'em!
